The science behind the technology!

Swimming pool covers are typically exposed to high levels of Ultra Violet (UV) radiation and chemical attack. GeoBubble is a material designed specifically for this environment, making the cover more resistant to these attacks and enabling a longer lifespan.
To understand the science of GeoBubble, it helps to look at the traditional bubble material used for pool covers. Originally their design was developed and adapted from the packaging industry, which is a high-volume, low-quality packaging bubble material with a short lifespan. Because of this, traditional bubbles have several inherent weaknesses in their design, including thin points and high residual stress areas. Thin points in a bubble design create weak points which are quickly broken down by UV rays and chemical attack. The degradation process is accelerated in areas of high stress as these areas are under constant strain. This results in the bubble material breaking down and will ultimately cause the premature failure of the pool cover. This is because of the inherent weakness within the bubble design produced by stress created in the material during manufacture. The angular profile of the traditional bubble design mould forces the material to move against the polymers natural flow characteristics applying stress which results in a thinning of the material and areas of high residual stress.
The GeoBubble has been designed to elevate these stresses during the moulding of the bubble profile. The geometric bubble allows the material to be formed without fighting the polymers rheological properties resulting in a material with a more uniform thickness, minimising the residual stress within the polymer structure.

GeoBubble’s unique features and benefits:

• Unique patented design of two bubbles joined together by a structural waistline centre section.
• No sharp corners that could result in thin or weak points in the design.
• No stress points due to the bubble’s smooth interconnected curves.
• 50% thicker than a traditional bubble material.
• Increased resilience against UV rays and chemical attack.

Why does the GeoBubble shape have a large surface area?

The GeoBubble design has a much larger footprint than most traditional bubble materials to allow for expansion of air in the bubble shape. The stiff waistline section makes the bubble strong enough to hold expanding air and will not stretch and burst under pressure. The large footprint also acts as an insulator, retaining heat in the pool, plus helps the cover stick to the water so it cannot be blown off the pool.

What is a stabilisation package?

Ultra Violet (UV) radiation is emitted by the sun and is partly absorbed by the atmosphere. UV light is destructive not only to human skin but also many man-made materials, including polyethylene and plastic products. Unless materials are specially treated, over time they become faded and brittle due to the exposure to UV light and chemicals. Additives are required as the bubble design alone will not stop premature failure of a swimming pool cover. In co-operation with suppliers and UK University partners, we have developed the best additive, stabiliser and anti-oxidant package available. This, combined with the unique bubble design, dramatically increases the lifespan of the swimming pool cover material by making it more resistant to UV light and chemical attack.

On-Site Lining

Onsite lining systems use a 1.5mm thick lining material, available in a choice of colours and patterns, which is welded into the swimming pool shell onsite. Onsite lining systems have a much longer life expectancy than standard  factory made liners and can be used for longer at a much higher swimming pool water temperature.

Once the shell of the pool is prepared, or built, and the skimmers, inlets, lights, main drains and linerlock are in place, an underlay is glued to the base and sides of the pool. Then a bead is welded to the top of the side walls. There is an option for adifferent type of fixing whereby PVC coated metal is welded directly onto the metal profile. This system is useful when renovating old pools when its important not to disturb the copng stones.

The Sidewall is then clipped into the linerlock (or welded to the metal profile) and cut to the correct depth. the base of the pool can now be lined and the sidewalls welded to the base.   The material is over-lapped by 50mm and welded by a hot air gun.

Onsite lining system are ideal for renovating and refurbishing pools and also for pools with unusual or complicated shapes.

It has an exceptional stregth. The material, which incorprates a polyester reinforced mesh, is 1.5mm thick which enables it to withstand intensive use and severe knocking from even the most enthusiastic swimmer. It also has a special formular that includes a UV stabilising treatment which can withstand exposure to all extreme weather, retaining its properties year after year.

Guaranteed for ten years, with a life expectancy nearer 15 to 20 years. On-site lining can be used on concrete, cement, render, brick or block, steel or aluminium, timber or fiberglass.

An on-site lined pool can be run at temperatures up to 33°C (91°F) without any detrimental effect on the expected life of the lining. Even at temperatures up to 35°C (95°F) the lining will give many years of service and is still covered by a more limited five year guarantee.

Below are a small selection of the patterns available

The Touch Range

The Touch Range is manufactured in extremely tough 2.00mm material and is the only pool lining to have a natural looking texture incorporated into it.

The patterns are designed to give a natural feel and appearance, giving the sensation of swimming in a natural pool or lagoon whilst never comprimising on the high protectionaspect. The multiple layers of acrylic varnish ensure a finish which will look fantastic for years to come, and will withstand all kinds of punishment endured in a swimming pool environment.

The 3D embossed Touch range is presented in three different patterns

Pre-Tailored Swimming Pool Liner

Liner pool construction is a more cost effective alternative than using the all concrete method, with the vinyl pool liner being the waterproofing membrane, therefore allowing the pool shell to be of a lighter build quality, but can give a similar and very attractive finished appearance to your swimming pool design.

Liner pool walls can be built either using concrete walling blocks or bolt together panels made from either resin or galvanised steel or from timber panels (see timber pools section). A layer of lightweight foam can then be applied for both heat retention and to protect the liner from wear.

Vinyl liners are available in various thickness and are factory welded to accurate plans.

With many different colours and patterns to choose from the customer can have their own custom design.

Below are a few of the many different patterns for pre-tailored liners

Here are some of the tilebands for pre-tailored liners

Working with the pioneers, Pools and Gardens can now incorporate lined steps into a pre-tailored liner. The benefits are enormous, for renovating old and new pools where a less expensive option than a fibreglass or acrylic step is desired. Moreover, the problem of matching the colour of the liner to the colour of the step disappears.

Almost any size and shape of step can be lined in this way, as long as clear and accurate drawings are supplied. The only stipulation is that there must be an absolute minimum of 6” (0.15cm) of water covering the top step in order to prevent movement of the liner.

Below are a selection of possible step designs

One-Piece Excellence

The Starline Monoblock is made from high-quality Vinylester, reinforced with a fibreglass sandwich construction providing an especially strong, stable and durable structure and also providing excellent insulation properties, which can help considerably in reducing your swimming pool running costs for years to come.

Every Monoblock in the range has built in safety in mind and has features such as the lower standing ledge as well as a safety ledge which can act as a guide for the optional automatic Roldeck slatted cover. The Starline Monoblock is fully prepared to include this Roldeck cover which  is hidden in a special Roldeck pit under the pool surround. The Roldeck is stored out of sight and the space surrounding the Monoblock is unobstructed, especially when an optional special child-safety lock is installed.

Every Monoblock is supplied with factory fitted and tested pool shell fittings, ready for pipe-work and filtration connection. All the pre-installed fittings, pipe work and optional extras such as counter current swim units are exclusively factory sealed, pressure tested and guaranteed before the pool arrives on site totally complete, fitted with or without a Roldeck cover, filter unit, coping stones and terrace tiles plus all other accessories such as a water lever switch. Installation therefore is far less messy and can be faster than a standard pool build.

As with all methods of swimming pool construction, the pool filtration system and flow       control are all important and must be sized correctly by an expert to ensure good water quality and ease of pool maintenance. Likewise, pool heating systems and, if the pool is Indoors, air handling and climate control systems need to be carefully sized and fitted by fully qualified engineers to ensure maximum efficiency.
